The complete title of this triptych is: Ueno Shinobazu kyoba no zu ('Picture of the Horse Racing at Shinobazu in Ueno'). - The Meiji Emperor, the Empress and their consorts attend the opening day of the horse racing at the racetrack around Shinobazu Pond in Ueno Park. The imaginative floats on the sky and the decorated boats on the pond add to the festive mood of the occasion.
