A courtesan on a bench holding a bow, a view of the pleasure quarter is depicted in the inset above. - This design is from Eisen's earlier period when his depiction of women still reflected the taste of the late 18th century as it was typical for the works of Utamaro, e.g. Later his figures became more and more 'compressed' while broad garments became the central element of the design. |
