Shinagawa, the first station after the starting point at Nihonbashi in Edo (Toyko), represents the second print in the series. At dawn, a daimyo procession is starting up the village street to the right from the shores of the bay. Except for the tea stall shops along the road are still closed. Along the bay of Edo we see the neighbouring village of Anamori. Shinagawa, today, is a part of Tokyo.
This impression of the design represents the second state, showing ten figures on the road (instead of six as in the earlier edition) and a varied assembly of the sailing-boats at anchor in the bay.
